Story of Purushottam Month

The Gathering at Naimisaranya

In the past, thousands of sages gathered at Naimisaranya, where Suta Goswami arrived with his students. The sages respectfully requested him to share the greatest story of the Supreme Personality of Godhead.

Suta Goswami began speaking about his recent visit to Hastinapura, where Sukadeva Goswami narrated the Srimad-Bhagavatam. He then shared the enchanting stories of Lord Krishna's divine activities.

Narada Muni met Lord Narayana at Badrika Ashram and sought guidance for the people of this world. Narada Muni's request led to Lord Narayana revealing the greatness of the sacred Purushottam month.

The additional month, called Malamasa, felt rejected and approached Lord Vishnu in Vaikuntha. Lord Vishnu assured her protection and elevated her to be as powerful as Him. The month became known as Purushottam month.

Devotional Practices during Purushottam Month

Lord Sri Krishna instructed on the significance of Purushottam month and the devotional practices to be observed during this time. He emphasized the benefits of bathing, chanting the Holy Name, and engaging in acts of charity.

The Story of Draupadi's Past Life

Draupadi, in her previous life as a brahmani girl, offended the sacred Purushottam month and faced its consequences. She later performed severe austerities and received Lord Shiva's blessings, leading to her rebirth as Draupadi.

Lord Sri Krishna advised the Pandavas to sincerely worship Purushottam month to regain their lost kingdom. He highlighted the month's power to fulfil desires and alleviate miseries.

Following Lord Sri Krishna's instructions, the Pandavas and Draupadi faithfully observed Purushottam month, leading to the restoration of their kingdom and their eventual return to the spiritual realm.
