    Makar Sankranti Gau Seva

Receive the Blessings of Lord Krishna by Serving His Beloved Cows

Makar Sankranti marks the auspicious transition of the Sun into Makara (Capricorn), symbolizing spiritual upliftment, charity, and new beginnings. On this sacred day, giving daan (charity) is considered hundreds of times more beneficial than on ordinary days. Among all forms of charity, Gau Seva (service to cows) is glorified in the Vedic scriptures as one of the highest and most pleasing services to the Supreme Lord, Sri Krishna.

Lord Krishna is lovingly known as Gopal, Govinda, and Gopala—the protector and caretaker of cows. By serving the cows, one directly serves Krishna and receives His unlimited mercy.

The scriptures repeatedly glorify Gau Seva as a divine act:

“The cow is most auspicious, and by serving the cow one can achieve all success.” — Mahabharata

“Cows are especially dear to the Supreme Lord, and one who protects cows pleases Him greatly.” — Śrīmad Bhāgavatam

Serving cows helps maintain dharma and supports the practice of bhakti-yoga in society.

    Bhagavad Gita 2.40

In this endeavour of offering service to Lord Kṛṣṇa, you get eternal credit, and a little service offer to Lord Kṛṣṇa can protect one from the most dangerous type of fear.

    Srimad Bhagavatam 10.11.11

While Kṛṣṇa was going to the fruit vendor very hastily, most of the grains He was holding fell. Nonetheless, the fruit vendor filled Kṛṣṇa’s hands with fruits, and her fruit basket was immediately filled with jewels and gold.

    Srimad Bhagavatam 10.22.35

It is the duty of every living being to perform welfare activities for the benefit of others with his life, wealth, intelligence and words.
