SSRRC members gather for Holi & Gaura Punima revelry
One of the earliest Holi celebrations at the temple began with a Holi & Gaura Purnima Get together function with Sri Sri Radha Rasabihari Committee (SSRRC) members. Initiated in 1998, SSRRC consist of several accomplished citizens of Mumbai who are not only well- wishers of ISKCON but assist with festival planning, temple projects and other temple related services.
The Holi celebrations saw committee members arrive in vibrant color outfits and joyfully welcome their fellow members by smearing tikka on their forehead with colorful powders. Strains of Vaishnava and Brijwasi bhajans reminded devotees of the colorful Brijwasi spirit of Holi as was enacted by Lord Krishna in Mathura and Vrindavan.
An elocution competition was arranged to quiz members about various personality from Vedic culture. Bhakti Vijanana Swami congratulated and distributed prizes to the winners and participants of the elocution competition. He thereafter enlightened all about the significance of Holi and explained how it is no coincidence that Holi falls on the appearance day of Lord Chaitanya (Gaura Purnima) who is a hidden incarnation of Lord Krishna but assumed the mood and color of Srimati Radharani.
The celebration saw some of its most exciting moments when members and devotees lovingly spraying colorful flowers petals on each and fondly recollecting the pastimes when the gopis inundated Sri Sri Radha Krishna with flower petals in the groves of Vrindavan. The Holi and Gaura Purnima gathering ended with delicious ekadasi prasada which coincidently included the delectable dish ‘Gauranga Potatoes’!
