Magnificent Janmashtami Celebrations
ISKCON Juhu brought in Sri Krishna Janmashtami – the appearance day of Lord Krishna with wide-ranging celebrations on 28 August 2013. Several months of exhaustive preparations bore fruit when thousands of visitors joyfully took darshan of Sri Sri Radha Rasabihariji dressed in their green and maroon new outfit, amidst chants of Hare Krishna Maha-mantra and devotional spirits ran high. The splendid flower decoration, light and special effects and overall grandeur inspired awe from the visitors and truly transformed the temple into a heavenly aboard.
The morning began with mangala-arati attended by hundreds of devotees. An even larger crowd gathered to greet Their Lordships during the Sringar darshan followed by a discourse on glories of Lord Krishna and pastimes related to His appearance by HG Devakinandan Das.
Extensive crowd control arrangements facilitated visitors, Life Patrons, Darshan pass holders and Kalash patrons to not only have smooth darshan but also comfortably relish delicious Ekadasi prasadam. Every person who visited the temple got a cupful of hot halava prasada whereas Life Patrons relished hot Ekadasi prasada meal.
Various informative booths, japa and chanting areas and facilities to interact with devotees assisted visitors to better understand the divine spirit and purpose behind the Janmashtami celebrations. Some of the interesting stalls were ‘Bhagavad-gita Road Show’, ‘Find your way back home, back to Lord Krishna’, etc.
The celebration reached the crescendo when thousands of devotees of Lord Krishna poured into the temple for the midnight darshan and to witness the Maha-abhishek. Chants of Hare Krishna Maha-mantra echoed in the temple hall at the stroke of midnight as the Maha-abhishek began and Their Lord ships Sri Sri Radha Rasabihariji were bathed in sacred substances followed by Maha-arati and bhoga offerings.
