Jhulan yatra 2009
ISKCON Juhu shall celebrate the Jhulan-yatra festival from 1-5 August 2009 . The festival will be conducted in the temple courtyard where a flower-bedecked ornate silver swing shall hold the utsav-murti of Sri Sri Radha Rasabihari. Life members, donors, devotees and hundreds of citizens of Mumbai are expected to participate in the festivities and personally swing the Lord.
Jhulan yatra, which is the most popular festival in the holy land of Vrindavan, is celebrated in the auspicious month of Sravana (July-Aug). The festival begins on the 11th day of the Shukla Paksha (in Shravan) month and ends on Shravan Poornima (full moon). Shravan Poornima is also the appearance day of Lord Balaram.
Jhulan Yatra festival is inspired from Lord Krishna’s pastimes in Vrindavan. It is believed that Lord Krishna, Srimati Radha and their intimate Gopis and Gopas used to swing in the monsoon season in Vrindavan with music and dance.
