    The month of Āshwin (September–October) is one of the most sacred months in the Vedic calendar, filled with festivals glorifying Lord Krishna and His devotees. In this month fall auspicious occasions like Sharad Purnima (the night of Rāsa-līlā) and Vijaya Dashami, all of which remind us of the Lord’s supreme protection and mercy upon His devotees.

    The scriptures declare that charity (dāna) given in this month brings multiplied benefits. In the Bhagavad-gītā (9.27), Lord Krishna assures:

    “Whatever you do, whatever you eat, whatever you offer or give away, whatever austerities you perform—O son of Kunti—do that as an offering unto Me.”

    The full moon of this month, Sharad Purnima, is described as the most beautiful night of the year, when Lord Krishna revealed the supreme bliss of rāsa-līlā to the residents of Vṛndāvana. Making an offering in this month is especially pleasing to Him, as it becomes part of His divine mission.
