Vraja Lila Devi Dasi, a spiritual counselor for ISKCON from the USA was invited by the Sri Rupa Manjari Institute of Education, a department for women education and training, to address an audience of 40 participants The workshop aimed to help one learn how to transform anger, depression, worry and negative self-talk into gifts of gratitude, compassion, and skillful communication.

Vraja lila Devi explained that a counselor is a listener and helps a person access his or her own feelings and needs, and directs the person to become dependent on the grace of the Almighty Lord. She also expressed that a counselor himself or herself requires a firm grounding in spiritual understanding and practice. She explained that anger and depression comes from false expectations. Therefore learning to be grateful for the gifts of God and of the people around us saves us from sinking into negative thoughts and self-talk.
