Anniversary Celebration with 1,01,000 plates of prasad distribution

Opening CeremonyDevotees at Sri Sri Radha Rasabihari Mandir celebrated the 33rd Anniversary of the temple opening on 14 & 15 January 2011. Makar Sankranti is especially esteemed by devotees at ISKCON Juhu since it marks the anniversary of Sri Sri Radha Rasabihari Temple, which is not only one of the most notable landmark in Juhu but also a spiritual oasis for hundreds of visitors everyday.

Makar Sankranti, which falls on 14 January every year, signifies the entry of Sun-God in the Northern Hemisphere (Makara-rasi), marking the beginning of the auspicious New year. It is said the doors of heaven are opened on this day.
While a team of 100 devotees prepared and cooked prasad (hot meal) at the break of dawn, more than 200 devotees began their day coordinating prasad distribution of hot meal consisting of rice, dal, subji, pickle and halava to unprivileged citizens of Mumbai . More than 50 vans were dispatched from the temple in the morning to various parts of Mumbai to distribute the meals.
Some of the places where the Prasad meals were distributed are near National Park (Borivali, E), Aarey buy accutane 40 mg Colony (Goregoan W), APMC Market (Vashi), Bhawans College (Andheri W), Mithibai College (Vile Parle W), Thane Mental Hospital (Thane), Laxmi Narayan Temple (Santazruz E) and at certain location in Dahisar, Ghatkopar, Chembur, Khar, Kandivali, Andheri, and Dadar.

The other special highlights of the event was the Dhwaja ceremony where sacred flags bearing the symbol of Garuda (Vishnu’s carrier bird) were hoisted on the all the three temple domes.

An abhishek in the evening saw thousands of devotees gather to witness the once-in- year occasion where all the four Deities from the altar namely Sri Sri Gaur Nitai, Sri Sri Radha Rasabihari, Sri Sri Sita Rama Laxaman and Sri Giriraj come out to shower Their unlimited mercy of Their devotees and are bathe with auspicious substances.

The program concluded with a discourse by Gopal Krishna Gowami and prasadam for all visitors.
