Anna Dan Seva and Maha-abhishek nourishes body-soul on Makar Sankranti
The most auspicious day of Makara Sankranti (which was on 15 January this year) was celebrated at ISKCON Juhu with twin celebrations. It was on this day in the year 1978 that Sri Sri Radha Rasabiharitemple was officially opened to all in its complete glory. It is also the day when the temple coordinates and distributes prasada to thousands as its initiative of Anna Daan Seva on Makara Sankranti day. This year too, the temple distributed more than one lakh plates of prasada to institutions, underprivileged and general public throughout Mumbai on 14th and 15th January. Devotees at the temple worked hard to ensure the prasada was prepared in time for delivery across the city. Trucks carried the prasada to various locations and devotees served it with much love to all. The piping hot prasada consisting of dal, sabji, rice, pickle and halava was much relished by all, some of whom even carried loads of it back home for sharing with their families and friends.
The other most significant event of the day was the anniversary celebrations of Sri Sri Radha Rasabihari temple. ISKCON Juhu completed 34 years and the anniversary celebrations were a day long affair at the temple. Three new dhwajas (flags) carrying the embroidered pictures of Sri Garuda were mounted on the dhwaja stambha (flag post) atop the domes of the temple. The dhwaja stambha proclaims the Godhead to the outside world and it stood proudly with the fluttering flags. The temple was adorned in marigold flowers giving the environment an auspicious gold feel. The Deities held everyone captive with their exquisite beauty and splendor. The highlight of the evening was the abhishek ceremony of all the Deities amid nice chants and melodious kirtan. This is the only day in the year that all the Deities are bathed with sacred substances at one time. The temple was packed to the capacity with many wanting to catch a glimpse of Their Lordships and the ceremony.
The program later shifted to the temple terrace and was well attended. Senior disciples and associates of Srila Prabhupada recollected the early days of ISKCON Juhu and the journey of the temple from a temporary shed structure to the magnificent marble temple as it stands today. The gathering felt enthused with the recollections and experienced special mercy of Srila Prabhupada and Sri Sri Radha Rasabihari. The evening ended with some hot delicious dinner prasada for all present.
